Maps

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  I was pretty lazy this weekend and didn't do any projects around the house.  I hope this weekend to get some things done and possibly work with a friend/client on her casa.  I will be sure to share.

So, a while back I posted about inexpensive wall art and part of the post was regarding the use of maps in design.  I now have a borderline obsession with finding a really cool old map to display.  Here's a few pics of pretty spaces that I found are chock full of inspiration.


Love the colors int this one.


This is a unique take on the use of maps and gallery wall.  I love the multi-colored frames and the variety of styles.


These are really graphic and pretty and I love how cohesive it is without being too structured.


This one is probably my favorite, I love the saturated colors in the map and all of the really unique pieces sharing the wall.

Unique Wall Art

I stumbled across this photo on pinterest (imagine that...I swear that website is soooo addicting) and I thought to myself "wow, what a cool idea, where can I get an old envelope preferably written by one of my grandparents" to enlarge and frame.  I think it was originally from a feature of a "bachelor pad" in Southern Living magazine and I just love it.  Imagine all the possibilities, the history behind it and the conversation starter it would be.  So I am off on a hunt to find an old envelope to try and do this to, and by hunt I mean call my mom and ask her to look for something. :)

Wallpaper

OK, so is everyone on board with the resurgence of wallpaper?  Now just a back story for you, I actually walked out of a home when we were searching for one because the entire thing was covered in wallpaper.  Now, that's saying something because I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and work at turning something dated and past it's prime to something beautiful.  Let's not forgot there were squirrels living in my house before we bought it.  But wallpaper from top to bottom, left to right wasn't for me. 

Well, wallpaper has made a comeback and I'm liking what  I see.  It's much more graphic, modern and luxurious looking, and doesn't have to be used cover an entire room but can create an accent wall, back a book shelf  or put into a frame for some cheap art.  Here's a sample of what I saw that I am digging.  Now I just need to think of something I can wallpaper.

Inexpensive Wall "Art"

Now if you are anything like me and can't stand blank wall after blank wall in a home but don't have the moola to purchase art you live by the theory of "if it can go in a frame... it's art" . Which is how we roll in this casa.

There are several low cost things you can do to add a little something something to your walls instead of just leaving them as big blank spaces.

I myself have framed coffee bean bags  and they are proudly displayed on a wall in my living room, seen in a previous post.  I have also framed maps I got from a $3 book of state maps  from TJ Maxx.  I chose three states that have had significance in our lives and framed those bad boys up.

My Aunt was kind enough to take this photo outside of a home on Caterina street in Italy when she was there and had it framed for me.  Obviously, her photography skills are waaayyyy more superior than mine. 

I just love the colors of the laundry and the shutters, such a simple thing but full of life and color.
