Campaign Furniture

Colorful campaign furniture is where it's at folks.  Now, I myself do not currently own a real deal campaign piece. I do however,  have a piece that is definitely something that needs some work (1992 wants its golden oak furniture back for reals) and with some creative use of some hardware & paint I think I could make it campaign-esq (not real world...i know).  Here's some pics I have been pulling some inspiration from.  Enjoy.

P.S.  If anyone out there would like to donate a piece I would be more than happy to take it off your hands.

Campaign furniture and chinoiserie together unbelievable!

Burlap Curtains

This morning I was browsing the new Ballard catalog , dreaming of the day when I can actually afford to purchase massive amounts of fabric, furniture and accessories when I saw these beauties.

Burlap Crewel Damask Panel

They are damask embroidered burlap and they are the perfect mix of glam and earthy.  I love them, but starting at $179 a panel this chick cannot even for another second think about getting these.  So after coming back to reality I figured, why not just stencil the burlap curtains I have in the kitchen to create a look a like minus the fancy embroidery.  So that's just what I did.

 This is the before

I am pretty happy with the way they turned out and at zero cost since I had everything I needed already.  I definitely didn't have any rhyme or reason with the stencil so they aren't perfect but that's OK with me.

Quench your thirst....

So it was extremely warm this weekend, and I loved every minute of it.  With the warmer weather my mood instantly changes, it makes me soo happy.  I think I become Vitamin D deficient in the winter.  Any who, I was in need of a refreshing and tasty drink to quench the thirst and help rehydrate after the St. Patty's day festivities.

I whipped up a pitcher of this water and it's soooo good and good for you :)

Slice a couple of lemons and use the juice of about 2 more.  Obviously, more or less to taste.

Peel and slice a small cucumber and add fresh picked mint.  (I used orange mint but any type would do the trick, also fresh basil may be very delicious as well).

Super easy, very refreshing and a little like being at a fancy spa.

A quick little paint job

So we have this quirky little "closet/shelf" system in our bedroom that holds some of my shoes and accessories.  It is has become really dingy looking in the inside partially due to all the scuff marks from the shoes. I really should repaint the whole thing but until I settle on a proper color I thought I would ad a little sass to it with some leftover paint I had.  I'm on the hunt for a fun draw liner to put on the shelves, I think it will help keep it clean.

 Please excuse this chaos...

The color appears pink in the pictures but it is more of a coral color.  Super easy, it kind of makes me smile when I open that weird little shoe closet.  :)

Open Shelving in the Kitch

So for the last couple of years I've seen more of a movement towards open shelving in the kitchen.  Some with only bottom cabinets and top mounted shelves and some just taking the doors off of the top cabinets.  I originally thought it was a passing trend but I think it's here to stay.  I like a lot of the kitchens I see, with the beautiful  tile back splash going to the ceiling and wonderfully edited shelves but if you're a hoarder probably not for you.  I do think it would force me to be more organized and perhaps donate some of the stuff that never gets used in our kitchen but I don't know if I can make that commitment just yet.

Here's a few pics:

open shelving
This is a little kitchen, but has big impact and it looks more like a cabinet unit with the doors removed rather than stand alone shelves.

Open shelving
The tile is insane gorgeous and the shelves are styled beautifully.

This is like a happy medium.  The closed cabinetry on the bottom and top cabinets all the way to the ceiling allowing for one shelve running below.  It maximizes space to the ceiling while allow for more covered storage.

More open shelving
I mean, you know your fancy when your glassware matches the beautiful tile back splash.

Piña Colada Cake...yes please!

Well, my weekend didn't go as planned but I still got a lot done and I'm hoping with the time change I will have more motivation to do stuff after work rather then trying to cram everything in on the weekends.  I did work in the yard... a lot, but won't show finished product yet (probably because it's still not finished).  I did bake up this sweet little treat, and it was delish. Piña colada pineapple upside down cake.  The recipe is from good old Betty Crocker  via Pinterest.

Painted Edges

So this coming weekend, is kind of packed but I think I need to find some time to paint my door edges.  I've noticed a trend as of late and I think it adds and interesting component to a plain old door.  Remember, when I mentioned painting interior doors way back when?  Well  I've had a hard time making that leap...probably out of laziness truth be told.  But I think the painted door edge is a good way to get my toes wet in the door painting pool if you know what I mean.  Here's a few inspiration photos.

Love the pop of orange and notice the painted legs on the chair?

This one is my favorite, completely unexpected and a nice compliment to the brown and creams used in the bathroom and hall.

The door color itself is awesome but the contract edging is what makes it.

Chickens and such

Happy March folks, sorry I've been a little sporadic with the posts as of late.  I celebrated a birthday, and in my world that's a solid week of birthday festivities.  The weather has been a bit of a roller coaster here in NC and spring fever has officially set in.  We plan on getting some chickens once we can confirm that we are out of the risk of freezing and then start enjoying some fresh laid eggs.

Apparently, having a chicken coop  in your backyard is the "new big thing".  We will definitely have a small coop, and probably only 2 chickens but here's a few coops I've been eyeing.  Some of them are so fabulous I want to live in them.

. A CHICKEN COOP!!!!
I mean, I can't even believe the cute level that is going on right now.  It's like a fairy tale chicken coop.

I love this one, it's modern but rustic.

Again, how cute?  What chicken wouldn't want to shack up here?

Love the shutters and gravel walkway.

chicken coop cute.
Window boxes on a chicken coop, who'd a thunk it.

This reminds me of a retro camper and I love it.

This one's pulling double duty as a coop and  herb garden...genious for small spaces.
